HTC's take on the metaverse leaked yesterday with a (very) brief appearance of a new website detailing the Viveport Verse. The site has since been taken down, but you can still view it via the Wayback Machine. 

As the manufacturer of the Vive range of VR headsets, HTC is understandably keen to show images of HMDs, but we note that no VR headset is required for Viveport Verse. WebVR enables users to also access the content on PCs, laptops, mobile phones and tablets.

Events, rooms and NFTs

'Explore the world beyond physical space,' the site says in particularly large letters. Users will create avatars to populate 3D environments and, 'Join a variety of fascinating online and in-person events,' suggesting virtual tourism, exhibitions, sports events and festivals.

Various spaces and free 3D models will be available to download and use to save time setting up your own event, while there are plans to enable users to generate rooms and objects to create their own spaces, 'with friends or an entire world'.

The site also reveals that Viveport Verse will offer an NFT Showroom explaining that, 'Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are virtual tokens minted on the blockchain for digital scarcity, security, and authenticity. They are unique, indivisible, and non-interchangeable'. There's no detail on what those NFTs will be used for, but we can speculate avatar items such as clothing or emotes.

This leak may be in advance of a full announcement at the forthcoming HTC Vive event this Thursday, October 14th.
