V, a VR dashboard for Rift which lets users access popular web platforms like Spotify, Soundcloud and Slack whilst inside VR experiences, has entered open beta. The dashboard can integrate itself into most VR games/experience, meaning no platform or developer buy-in is required.
To access V, Rift users must download it from V’s website. Then, after launching a VR experience experience, firmly tap twice anywhere on their HMD and look at a small white ring that appears in the upper left corner. From there, users can choose from a list of predefined bookmarks or manually type a URL of the website or web app they wish to access.
V stays open in the computer taskbar, meaning users can open and close the dashboard at any time from inside their VR experience. Currently, the beta allows for one browser window at a time to minimise that dashboard’s performance impact on VR app. As computers get more powerful, V will have multi-window options to open webpages, web apps, and native widgets.
