UK developer Climax Studios has opened a new studio in Auckland, staffed by ex-Gameloft employees.
Gameloft shuttered its New Zealand studio in January 2016, costing 160 jobs.
9 of these former employees now make up the new Climax studio, with Andy Wilton leading the team as Technical Director.
Picking up the pieces
"It was a great opportunity to hire a group of engineers, who were both experienced, talented and are already used to working as a team,” said Climax Studios CEO Simon Gardner.
“In addition I have known and worked with Andy for most of my life and he has worked for Climax as a contractor on numerous occasions in the past. The opportunity was just too good to miss.”
The new studio will be focusing on AR projects for an unnamed US corporation, and plans to grow over the coming year and expand into VR as well as continuing work on AR.
