Oculus reveals finalised Rift design, dual Touch controllers, and Xbox One support

In its pre-E3 2015 press conference, Oculus has revealed more about its virtual reality system, which will be shipping in Q1 2016.

First up, the Facebook-owned company has unveiled its finalised hardware design.

Up to this point, all Rift hardware has been labelled using the moniker Developer Kit.

The new version of Rift offers a more tactic aesthetic, in part thanks to its black cloth finish.

It also comes with detachable headphones, a table-top camera to provide external head and hand tracking and, most surprising, two controllers.

Hold this

The most interesting of these is the Oculus Touch.

Designed to be held one in each hand, each Touch effectively works as half a joypad - two shoulder triggers, joystick and two face buttons - surrounded by a loop to enable it to be picked up by the camera.

One Oculus Touch for each hand

More significant perhaps, as part of a strategic deal with Microsoft, Oculus announced Rift will ship with a wireless Xbox One controller, and also work natively with Windows 10 and play Xbox One games.

Play that

In terms of games developed specifically for Oculus Rift, CCP's EVE: Valkyrie, Insomiac's Edge of Nowhere, Gunfire Games' Chronos, and Playful Corp's Lucky's Tale are some of the titles being highlighted.

Yet, for all the excitement, there are still some key unknowns surround Oculus Rift; notably a firm pre-order and release schedule, and the price.
