In a statement released to the press, LG Electronics has announced that it will unveil its first VR HMD prototype at this year’s GDC in San Francisco.
Prototype hardware will be shown in Valve’s booth as LG collects feedback and impressions from developers to define the first commercial units. No hardware specs have been release, but LG says, “The LG HMD prototype is designed to deliver a high fidelity, next generation VR experience.”
Valve spokesperson Chet Faliszek took to his personal Twitter account to say, “We are expanding the world of @SteamVR with our friends at LG.”
We don't know how this will affect Valve's working relationship with HTC - with whom they collaborated to produce the Vive - if at all.
Pricing, launch dates, and territories will be announced at a later date.
