Job Title Events Marketing Assistant
Job Description

You could join a busy and fun marketing team to help deliver the best professional events in the games business!

Steel Media is a consumer and b2b technology publisher and events company based in the UK. Its biggest consumer brand is Pocket Gamer, dedicated to the mobile and handheld scene.

In addition to publishing world-renown websites, Steel Media hosts regular b2b conferences, and smaller webinars, round-tables, awards and networking events. Check out our latest online event here:

All our activities support, educate and connect the global games industry. They bring professionals working in games together in important cultural centres – from London to Seattle, Helsinki, Hong Kong and beyond – to do business and share knowledge. In the last year, they have taken place largely online, using tools like Zoom, but they retain their core character of talks and panels and networking.

More than 30,000 industry professionals have attended the Pocket Gamer Connects international conference series since 2014. We also produce surveys and reports, host the Top 50 Mobile Game Makers, and run the Big Indie Pitch competitions and more. The marketing team's job is to promote and evangelise all these activities and conferences.

The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a budding marketer with an interest in working in the games industry, to join the marketing team at Steel Media.

The marketing team is responsible for the planning and delivery of a range of multi-channel marketing campaigns for events and activities across various Steel Media brands including, and the leading B2B mobile games industry conference series, Pocket Gamer Connects.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Events Marketing Assistant will support the smooth day-to-day delivery of marketing activities and assist in the implementation of key initiatives that drive the growth of our events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Marketing Manager and wider team with project organisation and delivery
  • Produce regular long-form content to be published across our editorial websites
  • Capture relevant campaign performance metrics to report back to the Marketing Manager
  • Assist with the management of multiple social media channels as required
  • Play a key role in developing and implementing new creative marketing ideas
  • Deliver key engagement activities during our live events including: live tweeting, engaging with attendees across various communication channels such as Discord etc
  • Liaise with relevant internal stakeholders to fact-check information and ensure published content is correct and up to date

Key requirements:

  • Strong copywriter with confidence in writing for B2B and B2C audiences
  • An understanding of SEO best practice
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a small team
  • Creative by nature and adaptable
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced working environment
  • Highly organised, able to multitask and prioritise tasks effectively
  • A basic understanding of core marketing principles
  • Able to conduct research independently

Desirable skills:

  • An interest in games and some knowledge of the games industry as a whole
  • Some prior experience in events marketing and media
  • Experience using content management systems
  • Knowledge of social media best practice

Notes and considerations:

This is a remote, work from home position although the successful candidate must be available during key UK work hours.

We’d look to bring somebody on board in a freelance capacity, but a permanent staff position could be considered for the right candidate.

Ideally this role will be full-time (40 hours per week) but we are open to part-time or flexible working options.
Salary/rate depending on experience, can discuss.

It’s an entry level position. Steel Media is a small company where experience is gained quickly and everybody has a chance to influence our projects.

The teams work on a number of projects simultaneously; decisions are made quickly, and no two days are the same.

You’ll need to be good at working independently when needed, and respond to the wider needs of the senior managers as they arise.

You need to manage multiple communications channels daily, via email, Skype, Zoom and Google Docs and not be fazed by this.

Due to working remotely, you will need to be comfortable being out of an office setting (it doesn't suit everyone) and be able to communicate and report to your team manager via Skype and other online systems regularly.
