CCP Newcastle Saved From Closure By Indie Acquisition

Sheffield-based indie developer, Sumo Digital, has acquired CCP Games’ Newcastle studio for an undisclosed amount, following the news that CCP is pulling out of VR. 34 staff from the studio behind EVE: Valkyrie have been transferred to Sumo Digital, with Owen O’Brien, former Executive Producer, appointed as Studio Director.

Sumo’s portfolio includes work with Microsoft and Koch Media, across its family of studios in Sheffield, Nottingham, Vancouver, Pune and Newcastle. Managing Director of Sumo Digital, Paul Porter said, “As we continue to expand this was a great opportunity to bring an experienced, talented and tight-knit team on board.”

CEO of CCP, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson said,, “Sumo Digital is a great home for the team in Newcastle… As we say goodbye to our former colleagues we know that they will do great things there, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.”

Sumo Digital is currently hiring across its Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle and Pune studios.
