HTC Vive Wins Gadget of the Year 2016

Stuff has selected the HTC Vive VR headset as the Gadget Awards 2016 Gadget of the Year. Beating out the likes of Amazon Echo, Xbox One S and the iPad Pro 9.7, Stuff says: “Once you’ve tried VR on the HTC Vive everything else - including real life - just pales in comparison.”

Stuff is a best-selling gadget magazine which provides tech news, gadget tests and previews, as well as insights into upcoming technology. The second edition of Stuff’s annual Gadget Awards sees 23 winners from a multitude of categories; gadgets, apps, cars, services, TV shows and games are all amongst this year’s winners. The most prestigious award out of them all however, is the Gadget of the Year Award. And, this year, the HTC Vive has been crowned as just that.

Of the 23 award winners, the Vive was the only VR hardware on the list. “While the likes of the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR were fantastic fun, it was the HTC Vive that really blew us away”, says Stuff. The tech magazine notes that, “The Vive’s not perfect, but the motion controllers and Lighthouse body trackers make VR that bit more real,” in comparison to the competition.

Vive’s placement at the top of the table above more established technology like consoles and TVs in the awards is a testament to just how far VR has come in the short space of a year.
