Legal Case Solved By Bringing Virtual Reality Into The Courtroom

Emerging technology agency Spearhead Interactive have created what is believed to be the worlds’ first VR visualisation that resulted in the closing of a real-world court case.

The team was commissioned to replicate the scene of a road traffic collision to resolve the ongoing legal case that that followed. Developed in four weeks, the case was settled soon after solicitors received the VR recreation.

Spearhead created a 3D model of the real-world environment, providing tools for users to move around and interact with the scene; allowing users to witness the incident from a multitude of different angles and positions. This meant that users could be placed in the drivers’ seats and in know witness locations to validate statements.

Dan Riley, Managing Director at Spearhead Interactive said “The final software was submitted to the courts as a PC application that users can view either on a monitor or through a Virtual Reality headset, providing unprecedented levels of immersion and enabling users to experience, replay and discuss events as if they were there themselves.”

This case is a big indicator towards VR becoming increasingly significant in the legal system as well as other professional areas as the technology develops.
